The home office dilemma

Sí, más de un año ya. Al principio me encantaba. Se acabaron los atascos, se acabó madrugar para coger el tren. Pero, sinceramente, ahora empieza a molestarme.

Yeah, more than a year already. At first I loved it. No more traffic jams, no more getting up early to catch the train. But to be honest, it's starting to bother me now.

El mayor problema es que ya no consigo separar el trabajo y la vida personal. Tengo el escritorio en el salón y me doy cuenta de que por la tarde sigo mirando el correo.

The biggest problem is that I can't separate work and personal life anymore. My desk is in the living room, and I notice that I still check my email in the evenings.

My partner says I'm never really off.

Eso también es complicado. Las pequeñas cosas que en la oficina resuelves en dos minutos ahora cuestan mucho más esfuerzo.

That's also difficult. Small things you sort out at the office in two minutes now take much more effort.

Tienes que convocar una reunión para algo que podrías haber preguntado simplemente acercándote a la mesa de alguien. Y el aspecto social lo echo muchísimo de menos.

You have to schedule a meeting for something you could have just asked at someone's desk. And I really miss the social side.

Las charlas junto a la máquina del café, una comida espontánea juntos: eso ha desaparecido por completo.

Those chats by the coffee machine, a spontaneous lunch together — that's gone completely.

¿Tu empresa tiene planes para un modelo híbrido?

Does your company have any plans for a hybrid model?

Se está hablando del tema, pero todo va bastante lento. Lo que yo hago ahora es ir a un espacio de coworking dos veces por semana. Eso ayuda muchísimo.

There's talk about it, but it's all taking quite a long time. What I do myself now is go to a coworking space twice a week. That helps a lot.

Tengo a otras personas alrededor y consigo una separación más clara entre el trabajo y el hogar.

There are other people around me, and I have a clearer separation between work and home.

Qué buena idea. Yo también creo que el futuro está en algún punto intermedio.

Exacto. Estar totalmente en casa no es para mí, pero cinco días a la semana en la oficina tampoco hace falta. Se trata de encontrar el equilibrio adecuado.

Exactly. Working fully from home isn't for me, but five days a week at the office isn't necessary either. It's about finding the right balance.
