Look, at first I thought it was going to be perfect. No commute, no early mornings, none of that rush. But after a few months, I realised it's not that simple.
Olha, no começo eu achava que ia ser perfeito. Sem trânsito, sem acordar cedo, sem aquela correria. Mas depois de uns meses, percebi que não é tão simples assim.

The boundary between work and personal life practically disappeared. Before, when I left the office, work stayed there. Now, the laptop is always sitting there on the living room table, staring at me.
A fronteira entre trabalho e vida pessoal praticamente desapareceu. Antes, quando eu saía do escritório, o trabalho ficava lá. Agora, o notebook está sempre ali na mesa da sala, me olhando.
I feel the same way. The other day, I realised I was answering emails at eleven at night without even thinking about it.
Eu sinto a mesma coisa. Outro dia, percebi que estava respondendo e-mails às onze da noite sem nem pensar.
Exactly. And there's also the issue of isolation. I miss the hallway conversations, the coffee breaks with colleagues. Video calls don't replace that.
Exatamente. E tem a questão do isolamento também. Eu sinto falta das conversas no corredor, do cafezinho com os colegas. A videochamada não substitui isso.

I've tried it. I even liked it, but the cost isn't worth it if the company doesn't help pay. It's around eight hundred reais a month here in Belo Horizonte.
Já tentei. Até gostei, mas o custo não compensa se a empresa não ajuda a pagar. São uns oitocentos reais por mês aqui em Belo Horizonte.
What if you proposed a hybrid model to your manager? Like, going to the office twice a week?
E se você propusesse um modelo híbrido para o seu chefe? Tipo, ir ao escritório duas vezes por semana?
I've thought about that, but the company office is in Curitiba. I moved to BH precisely because of remote work. If I went back to in-person, I'd have to move again.
Eu pensei nisso, mas o escritório da empresa fica em Curitiba. Mudei para BH justamente por causa do trabalho remoto. Se voltasse ao presencial, teria que mudar de novo.
It's a dilemma, isn't it? Geographic freedom versus human connection.

Definitely. I think the ideal solution would be a middle ground. Working from home most of the time, but having regular in-person meetings with the team, even if it's just once a month.
Com certeza. Acho que a solução ideal seria um meio-termo. Trabalhar de casa na maior parte do tempo, mas ter encontros presenciais regulares com a equipe, mesmo que seja uma vez por mês.
That makes sense. Remote work works, but it needs structure so it doesn't turn into a trap.
